Day 1 - .
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast and drive you to Pamukkale, which means "cotton castle" in Turkish. It is a natural park and a UNESCO site today visited by many tourists worldwide. There is an ancient city called Hierapolis on top of the white travertines, a healing center since the 3rd Century BC. The kingdom of Pergamon developed the city into a famous healing center of the Hellenistic times, and Hierapolis started to grow rapidly when they became allies of the Roman Empire along with the people of Pergamon. Agoras, Baths, Theaters, and Temples were built in that time frame, and the ancient holy pool became a secret meeting point for Cleopatra and Marcus Antonius. The huge Roman Bath complex was converted to a museum to exhibit the relics unearthed during the Italians' excavations at the beginning of the 20th Century. After exploring the ancient city and a walk over the travertines, you will drive to Geyre village and have lunch there to fill the batteries for the last highlight of the day; Aphrodisias. The city was dedicated to the most beautiful Goddess of the Greeks, and the city became an important school of sculpture and workshop of famous Aegean Marble. The statues in the museum of Aphrodisias look like they will come to life and walk away. The unfinished sarcophagus and the sculptures are among the most interesting relics of the ancient city of Aphrodisias. The Tetrapylon and the Stadium are jaw-dropping for being one of a kind in Anatolia in that condition. After seeing the Temple of Aphrodite, Theater, and the Odeon, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
Discover Pamukkale's terraces and Aphrodisias' ruins in one day.
