Tour Plan
Day 1 - Ephesus
You will meet with your private guide and driver in front of the Izmir Airport. A 1-hour drive will take you to the Ephesus area, where the Aegean region's jewels are located. You will first visit the ancient city of Ephesus, which has been excavated since the last century. Once the biggest Hellenistic city in the world, Ephesus Ancient City houses beautiful marble work that can be seen in the Library of Celsus, Temple of Hadrian, and Fountain of Trajan. You will not believe that the city was once so close to the Aegean waters since the harbor street in front of the gigantic theater lies a few yards to the west into the marshes. The terrace houses will highlight this trip because of the beautifully preserved mosaics reflecting the rich's extravagant lifestyles in Ephesus Ancient City. On the way to Selcuk's village, you will also see one of the World's Seven Wonders, Artemis Temple. Your tour will continue with a visit to Seljuk's museum, which houses beautiful relics found during Ephesus excavations. After lunch, you will drive up the scenic mountains overlooking the Aegean Sea to visit the shrine of The Virgin Mary. The small church hidden up above the mountains is believed to be where the mother of Jesus spent her last years. The shrine was visited by various popes and made it religiously important to the Christian world. Today, the Virgin Mary's shrine is a pilgrimage point for the Christians and a religiously important shrine for the Muslims. You will drive to the quaint Greek village Sirince to finish the day with a little walk among the beautiful Greek houses used as cafes, hotels, shops, and restaurants. Then, you will be taken to your hotel.
Day 2 - Aphrodisias & Pamukkale
Your guide and driver will be ready in front of the hotel at the desired time. After a 2,5 hour drive, you will arrive at the ancient city of Aphrodisias, the best-preserved ancient city dedicated to Greek mythology's most beautiful goddess. Thanks to the city's location, people reached high-quality marble easily yet advanced in sculpture and traded them throughout the Greek and Roman mainland. Aphrodisias also has the best-preserved stadium in the Greek world to hear the spectators cheering for their favorite team. After exploring the ancient city, lunch will be held in a restaurant nearby, and you will continue to another UNESCO World Heritage site of Turkey, Pamukkale, Hierapolis. Meaning the 'holy city' people of Pergamon founded Hierapolis as a healing center. The thermal waters collected in the pools once became a secret meeting point for the legendary lovers of the Roman ages, Cleopatra and Marcus Antonius. This ancient city's theater has phenomenal views into the fertile Denizli plains. Be advised that the ancient city is seen more than 20 miles away because of the white travertines embellishing Hierapolis's slopes. The carbonate in the thermal waters creates natural pools on top of each other, creating a spectacular natural art piece. After a gentle walk over the travertines, you will drive back to your hotel.
